Abstract

We demonstrate the application of Raman effect in Holey Fibre (HF) to produce an efficient Raman amplifier and modulator. Using a 75m long HF with an effective are of 2.85 µm2 we obtained internal gain of over 42dB for the amplifier and 11dB extinction ratio for the modulator.
