Description/Abstract
This paper presents an overview of novel extensions to the Microcosm open hypermedia architecture which facilitate content based retrieval and navigation with non-textual media such as images, vdieo and sound. MAVIS, (Microcosm Architecture for Video Image and Sound) extends the area of application of generic and computed links to non-textual media. Examples of the use of shape and colour for content based retrieval and navigation are presented.
