Description/Abstract
Microcosm is an open hypertext system developed in the Department of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. This paper describes the ongoing development of Microcosm to provide a multimedia information management environment on the scale of the `information superhighway'. The model is presented and new issues discussed, with particular focus on the application of Microcosm ideas to integrate with the World Wide Web and to enhance its functionality.
