Description/Abstract

The adaptive observer backstepping design is compared to the high gain observer design through a parametric output feedback system. The adaptive observer backstepping design guarantees uniform bounded performance of the controller; whereas, the performance of the high gain observer design is not uniformly bounded in the estimate for the upper bound of the uncertain parameter. If the estimated bound of the uncertain parameter is conservative the adaptive observer backstepping design has a better performance than the high gain observer design.
