Description/Abstract
This paper reports on a student assignment, based around DERIVE, which facilitates an exploration of some properties of trigonometric functions of a complex variable at a stage well before their formal introduction. The interaction between the students' mathematical analysis and their observations of the DERIVE output is discussed.
