Description/Abstract
Resist India is a new body of photographic assemblages by the artist Robert E. D’Souza exhibited at Suzhou Art Museum in China. The digital photographs that are the basis for these art works were taken over the last three years across India.
These images document and concentrate on evidence of points of visual tension produced by the cultural aspirations of an emerging global economic leader alongside its highly diverse and ancient visual culture.
Underpinning this work is the contention that national identities are partly produced through these points of visual tension, in which new forms of visual representation are integrated into the ongoing construction and reconstructions of identity
