Student involvement in leadership

Student involvement in leadership
Student involvement in leadership
The post-compulsory sector has been criticised because of the limited opportunities it makes available for student leadership development, and among employers there is growing concern that young people are not being adequately prepared with the leadership skills to compete in the global economy, though the current increases in student fees in Higher Education and the accelerating marketisation of education generally have increased the perceived importance of student engagement. Research suggests that students with little opportunity to shape their educational experience tend to adopt a more passive attitude toward education and learning generally, so that identifying successful ways to develop leadership capability in students is an ever-evolving and important discussion among educationalists.

Abstract

The post-compulsory sector has been criticised because of the limited opportunities it makes available for student leadership development, and among employers there is growing concern that young people are not being adequately prepared with the leadership skills to compete in the global economy, though the current increases in student fees in Higher Education and the accelerating marketisation of education generally have increased the perceived importance of student engagement. Research suggests that students with little opportunity to shape their educational experience tend to adopt a more passive attitude toward education and learning generally, so that identifying successful ways to develop leadership capability in students is an ever-evolving and important discussion among educationalists.
