La estela de Almargen (Almargen, Málaga): una nueva valoración en el contexto de las estelas del suroeste de Andalucía"
Since 1993, when the stela of Almargen (Málaga) was published, the number of “southwestern” stelae known in the Iberian Peninsula has doubled. Newly discovered stelae have extended the geographic distribution of this phenomenon, have diversified its iconographic parameters and, in some cases, have provided valuable contextual information to advance the interpretation of these monuments. In this paper we present a preliminary assessment of the archaeological surroundings and landscape setting of the stela find-spot, a new analysis of the engravings of the stela based on the results produced through the application of RTI, and a new comparative study of its iconography. To finish, we offer an assessment of these preliminary results in relation to the rich and broad variety of “southwestern” stelae known to date in Andalusia and on Iberian Peninsula as a whole
