Microsphere propulsion along sub-micron optical wires

Microsphere propulsion along sub-micron optical wires
Microsphere propulsion along sub-micron optical wires
Propagation of light in sub-micron optical fibre wires has been analysed. The large evanescent field has been exploited to propel 10 micron polystyrene spheres and sphere clusters along the sub-micrometric wire with about 0.4W of laser light at 1047nm.
