Waveguide coupling to size-mismatched bispheres
Coupling of whispering gallery resonances has been observed for two contacting glass microspheres of very different diameter. Whispering gallery modes were excited in one microsphere from the evanescent field of a planar waveguide, and wavelength-selective coupling of energy between spheres was demonstrated.
