Bursitis of the foot: a common and under diagnosed problem in patients with rheumatoid arthrtis
Bursitis of the foot: a common and under diagnosed problem in patients with rheumatoid arthrtis
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) frequently present with pain under the metatarsal heads that is usually attributed to metatarso-phalangeal joint (MTPJ) synovitis. Plantar bursitis can give rise to similar symptoms , but is rarely diagnosed clinically. With the advent of ultrasonography (US), however, bursitis can now be reliably imaged and diagnosed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of plantar forefoot bursitis detected by Rheumatologists in clinic, by clinical examination by a Podiatrist and by US by a Radiologist.
