Description/Abstract
In this paper we present a description and interpretation of series of water galleries (kharez) in the arid region near the ancient city of Turkestan in Kazakshtan. Over 250 lines of khaez wells have been surveyed. The excavations of a series of wells are described in terms of the local hydrogeology
