Abstract

When the Institution of Civil Engineers decided to split its Proceedings into a series of specialist parts, starting in January 1992, it was agreed that the various components of geotechnical engineering-the sciences of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, engineering geology and engineering seismology-were already well provided for by the eminent scientific journal Geotechnique and by Ground Engineering. Why then has the Institution of Civil Engineers now decided to launch Geotechnical Engineering as part of its Proceedings? During the period following the launch of the new-style Proceedings there was considerable debate amongst the geotechnical community concerning the omission of a part which could take our papers?...& more
