Gelcasting of hydroxyapatite
Hydroxyapatite (HA) has long been investigated and used as a bone implant material because of HA's bioactivity, biocompatibility and oste0inductivities. However, the use of hydroxyapatite (HA) as a ceramic material for osteo-implants is restricted because of its low mechanical strength and low toughness. Gelcasting method is used to obtain a high density forming body of HA. This paper described the gelcasting of hydroxyapatite. The oxidation-reduction reaction between PPM and OA was used to initiate the AM and MBAM monomer to polymerize. The idle time is much shorter in contrast with that initiated by APS and TEMED. There is no defect in the sintered part and the density of the dense part is 99.6% theory density.
