Building valid knowledge bases: An ACKnowledge perspective
Building valid knowledge bases: An ACKnowledge perspective
Knowledge Acquisition (KA) id the fundamental point of departure for the construction of any knowledge based system (KBS). This paper examines the process of validation in the context of knowledge acquisition. The discussion centers around systems we have built and are continuing to develop which support the knowledge engineer in the process of knowledge acquisition. We distinguish a number of aspects to the process of KA all of which have a validation component. These include: validation with respect to particular KA methods and techniques, validation when knowledge form these techniques is transformed and integrated into larger aggregated knowledge bases, and validation with respect to generic models of problem solving that can be used to direct the KA process.
