Selection criteria for polarising mirrors for use in high power CO2 laser
The polarisation state of some CW CO2 lasers is due to weak anisotropies in the resonator. The possibility of locking the polarisation of such a laser to a stable linear state using internal cavity mirrors at non-normal angles of incidence and the criteria to be used in the construction of such mirrors were investigated. Stable locking of the polarisation of a 5 kW CW CO2 laser was obtained by replacing copper turning mirrors with molybdenum.
