Building a pragmatic Semantic Web

Building a pragmatic Semantic Web
Building a pragmatic Semantic Web
One of the great benefits that Semantic Web (SW) technology offers is facilitating large scale integration and sharing of distributed data sources. Transferring this technology from the lab environment and into the real world requires careful planning to make sure the technology continues to offer a cost effective and practical service. This paper describes our approach for promoting SW technology to industrial and government organisations. We describe two SW applications, one involving several parts of government and the public sector, and the other one targets the aviation industry. The aim was to show these organisations and industries how they can practically and, relatively cheaply, adopt SW technology for the dissemination, sharing and use of their data, and demonstrate examples of immediate benefit.
