Developing excellence in library and knowledge services: accreditation of library and information services in the health sector: a checklist to support assessment, 2nd edition with revised guidelines
The Checklist is designed to be used in assessing a wide range of health library and information services including NHS libraries, academic health libraries serving NHS communities, consumer health information services and information services serving the pharmaceutical industry. It can also be used to evaluate library and information services in voluntary organisations, local authorities, professional and regulatory bodies and research units. The generic Checklist document focuses on the components
that every library and information service should have to support their clients in the health sector, particularly in connection with evidence-based decision-making and life-long learning. In the NHS environment, Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs)/Workforce Development Confederations (WDCs) in England have a crucial role to play as commissioners of library service alongside their
strategic development role, and so should find it especially valuable.

Abstract

Published date: July 2005
Additional Information: Note on the 2005 revision In order to maintain the checklist as a working tool relevant to the current climate in the provision of health care library and information services, the compilers have produced this revised edition. Most current accreditation programmes have not yet completed their first three year cycle, so in order to maintain consistency within these programmes, the wording of the criteria themselves has not been changed, although suggestions are made for amalgamating some of the statements in order to achieve a more balanced marking system. This revision therefore consists principally of an update to the guidance material.
