This short piece presents an edition of an item in BL ms. Additional 38816, the base manuscript for the edition of Stephen of Whitby’s Account. It comprises extracts from charters providing for pittances in the abbey, and provides the basis for a discussion of the abbey’s internal organization and its relationship with its thirteenth-century benefactors.
