We report a cladding-pumped ytterbium-doped fiber laser, generating up to 610W of continuous-wave (cw) output power at 1.09µm with a slope efficiency of 82% and with a good beam quality (M2=2.7). The core diameter was 43µm and the inner cladding diameter was 650µm. Even at this high power, the maximum output power was still limited by the available pump power, and no undesirable roll-over was observed in output power with increasing pump power.
