A chloride selective amide cleft molecule 2 containing two Cr(CO)?moieties has been synthesised by condensation of (?6-aniline)Cr(CO)?3 with isophthaloyl dichloride; the X-ray crystal structure of 2 contains a network of Cr-CO···HN hydrogen bonds giving rise to an extended three-dimensional coordination array; the X-ray crystal structure of (?6-aniline)Cr(CO)?3 has been re-determined and found to contain bifurcated amine NH···OC-Cr hydrogen bonds.
