Qualitative research techniques have become a favoured tool of academic nursing research in recent years. Although there is now a significant body of methodological literature intended to train students in these techniques, the limits of qualitative research techniques are rarely discussed. This research note discusses the limits on claims that can be made about the utility of such techniques.
