The relationship between participation in an alternative certification programme (teach first) and pupil attainment
The relationship between participation in an alternative certification programme (teach first) and pupil attainment
This study aims to explore the impact of Teach First on student achievement. Teach First is an alternative certification program in England based on Teach for America. A quasi-experimental design where each Teach First school was matched to a school as similar as possible on key characteristics for three years prior to taking part in the program was used. National pupil and school level datasets were collected from the Department for Education (DfE) to allow us to look at performance measures controlled for student background over time. Participation in the Teach First program was found to be related to higher levels of achievement, as was a having a greater number of Teach First teachers in the school.
