Frequency dependence of AC losses of AgAu/PbBi-2223 tapes with twisted filaments under perpendicular AC fields

Frequency dependence of AC losses of AgAu/PbBi-2223 tapes with twisted filaments under perpendicular AC fields
Frequency dependence of AC losses of AgAu/PbBi-2223 tapes with twisted filaments under perpendicular AC fields
The frequency dependence of AC losses of multifilament Ag/Ag/PbBi-2223 tapes with twisted filaments has been measured under perpendicular AC fields at 77K. Tapes twisted at different pitches, Lp, from 4 to 15 mm, have been analyzed. The use of a high resistive sheath results in a reduction of losses by the uncoupling of filaments at fields below the coupling field, Bc. In this regime, the frequency dependence of the two main loss contributions: superconducting, Qs, and coupling current loss, QC has been obtained separately from the measurement of the different harmonics of the voltage induced in the pick-up coil. Moreover, the time constant characteristic of the coupling currents, as well as Bc(f) has been estimated for tapes with different twist pitches. A comparison between the experimental results and the theoretical predictions has been done.
