Form evaluation algorithms in coordinate metrology
Form evaluation algorithms that characterise geometric dimensions and verify the conformance to a given tolerance from the 3D measurement data play a significant role in 3D coordinate metrology. This paper reviews the research on form evaluation software, including the approaches to development, testing and selection of appropriate algorithms for form evaluation.
By investigating the issues raised in form evaluation software, a methodology for testing of spherical form evaluation algorithms has been proposed and presented, including drawing up the criteria for algorithms testing, and designing approaches to testing procedures. Based on testing and analysing, conclusions have been drawn for properly applying form evaluation algorithms.
