Gallium-diffused ridge waveguides in sapphire
The fabrication and characterization of gallium-diffused ridge waveguides in sapphire is reported. Mode intensity profiles and effective indices are obtained and the waveguides show promise for incorporation in low-threshold Ti:sapphire waveguide lasers.
