P: I dunno, 'cos the only person who ever edited this [wiki].

I: Right, you've got a lot of edits to the same articles here in succession.
I: So lot's of repeat editing of the CSS file of...
P: You have to save it and then reload to see if your CSS gadgets have worked.
I: The preview doesn't actually work for that, does it?
P: No.

3:00 on is some technical style fiddling

4:05 is fixing bad markup and moving a picture
I: Right, so you've moved the image---oh, you've also added a...thumbnail thing to the image and a caption. So.
I: Why did you go through adding the caption and things? What made you decide to do that?
P: Well, originally it was just stuck at the bottom, and it looked a bit stupid there, so I thought if I put it in a corner [they'd---other editor?] not worry about it y'know.
I: Ok. Um. How did you go about that? I mean, how did you know all the template things? To make it thumbnail, and right aligned, and have a caption.
P: Uh, I've done it quite a lot of times now, but the first time I did it I got it off the wik---there's a wikipedia cheat sheet thing.
I: Wikipedia cheet sheet? Ok.
I: Right. Could you have done it any other way, that you thought of? Chose this way instead? Was it just sort of 'the way'?
P: Pff. I don't think those [arguments to the image] are in any particular order [correct], but...
I: Right.

Adding text, minor corrections.

I: Ah, so you added a link, and you missed the markup the first time. To make it actually a piped link.
P: [I think something?] you notice here I'm not previewing...very thoroughly.
I: Yeah. Right.
P: Then again it's not---if it was Wikipedia I dunno if people would be more likely to dump on you in two seconds if you didn't get it right.

Changes a table from 1xN to Nx1 around 8:30, but just did it. Lots of layout rejigging.

I: You added a link to the word 'exec'.
P: That's a committee.[?]
I: Ok.
I: I see---it was actually a paragraph down the bottom saying "for more information see the 'exec' page", and you've moved it up to actually being a link to [from] the word 'exec' where 'exec' is used in the article.
P: Er, yes.
[cont?]
I: Right.
P: [Apparently it's me. ?Next article?]
P: Trying to reduce space or something.
I: Mmm.

<10:45 ish>
P: The logo is the other thing I've updated several versions of.
I: I'm not sure how it does difference---oh I see, it's a...it's the description of the image that's changed.
P: Well the actual image has changed as well but I don't know how that works. But, doesn't it have a...
I: I don't---I've not actually done images on Mediawiki.
P: Mkay.
I: I've uploaded them but I've not ever changed them.
P: There's another version, [and?] should be in the version.
P: But basically... / I: I wonder if I can...
P: Erm.
I: Yeah; you've made some change to the image.
P: Yeah.
I: You've added some text saying...that...it's been changed; you've got some...further revisions from the original designer.
I: Ok. So how did you go about changing this?
P: Um...clicked on it I think: "upload a new version of this file".
I: Ok. Right.
I: So, chosen to use the same filename and...then replace that image rather than <P: Yeah> upload a different one.
P: Yeah, so that the next version has---I mean you can see that this [image] is corrupt---so that the next version has it in [preview cut? mumbled]
I: Right. But you've chosen to use the new version of an image, rather than to upload a whole new image with a different filename that's the...
P: Yeah. I mean, this is...
I: Presumably because...you wanted to...
P: 'Cause it's an improved version of the same image.
I: Ok.

<12:45 ish>
I: So you were viewing the Diary page, and you thought you needed an image, and you had an appropriate one, so you---
P: Well, I went to the [social networking site] group and searched for one.
I: Ok, so you went and found an appropriate image to add, ok.

<14:35>
I: Well, did you create the page for that event and then link it from the front [page], or did you link it from the main page---
P: Ah no I create a link and click.
I: You created the link, then clicked the red version of it to create the page?
P: Yeah.
I: Ok.

On-line <15:20 ish>

[London Underground]
P: ...look for somewhere suitable to put the information which I've [?] to find.
I: It's that it's the oldest metro in the world. So yeah. Ok.
P: Could put it in the History section.
I: Ok.
I: [?] found a suitable section.
P: Um. What were you---the...
I: It's the oldest metro in the world, um, starting in 1863. <17:50>

I: So you've found a suitable section and you're writing a paragraph in there, OK.
P: Um.
I: Tha---that'll do.
P: Yeah, I'd probably save it, and then, re-read it, and then, maybe change it a bit, but.
I: Ok. No, you can save that.
P: I'm gonna click save, and probably not bother to fill in the summary or tick any of the boxes.
I: Is that because you don't believe it's a minor edit, or just 'cause you can't be bothered with the boxes?
P: Erm, the second one, probably.
I: Right, ok.
I: And you'd go back and check the edit, ok.
P: Yeah, just after I [sumbit?]
I: Right.
<direct to put in TiL page too>
P: <looks over page> It's a bit ugly this, isn't it. Um. <I: Mmm?> I'm just muttering.
I: Ok, ok.
P: I was thinking that there's too many layers of stuff in this...
I: Too many layers in the table of contents?
P: Yeah. And like if it were me I'd try and...
I: You'd try and simplify that?
P: Yeah. I know, I'm supposed to be editing whatever---
I: No, it's alright; I want you to speak about things you're thinking about.
P: I was thinking that if it was---like in LaTeX, when you can start putting a star on...
I: Oh, to stop it showing you [that section] in the table, right.
P: I don't know if you can do that in...um... <19:40>

P: Erm. I'd just put it in the Underground section.
I: Ok. So you'd find that section and add it in. Ok.
P: Mmm; well...
I: So you'd put it in both nodes. Ok. Right, well, let's...
P: [Mumbled] Yeah it's just---
I: ...do the next one.

[Cake] <20:15>
I: So, can you add links to the text where you feel would be appropriate in there?
P: Pff...I dunno.
P: Does it not depend what else is on this...
I: Well assume it's ordinary Wikipedia, so you can assume that most things have pages.
I: I mean, what kind of things /would/ you make links to in that text?
P: Erm, dunno. Buttercream, maybe?
I: Ok.
P: Mmm.
I: Why buttercream in particular?
P: Uh, because I don't know what it is.
I: Ok.
P: Maybe 'cake recipes'. I dunno, do you get cake recipes on Wikipedia? Maybe I'd find that out and...
I: So you'd check that the think you were going to link to was going to exist. Ok.
I: Right, ok.

[Multiple Units] <21:30>
I: And can you please, create a page about multiple units in general, around the world, which has some short descriptions, and links to the Irish, and the Russian, versions.
P: What, can I link it off here [Main Page]?
I: Yep.
I: Ok, so you're editing the top section of the Main Page.
P: [Mumbled] And I'm [doing/calling it?] what?
I: It's just about Multiple Units, so you can just put that.
P: Multiple Units...
I: You're adding a link to the page. Saving that. <P: [mumble about not ticking boxes]>
P: And then I'm going to---
I: Clicking the red version of that link to go to create the page.
P: ---which is what I, did and---
I: ---yep; I've just got to say it out loud for the transcript.
P: When you---when you were asking how I did it on the Main Page on the [mumbled: Essed Eee Cee Arr ? that was?] this way.
I: Ok.
P: So what am I putting on this?
I: It's just saying they are self powered train cars and they...and a little bit of the description about them in Ireland and in Russia, which you can take from the other two nodes.
P: So is this multiple units; do you mean units like, kilograms and pounds, or do you mean units like....train...carriages...
I: It's train carriages things, yeah, it's a strange term.
P: Multiple units are...
I: Are trains. You can just link to trains from Ireland and trains from Russia and take description from those pages if you want.
P: ...trains are...
I: <reading> Yaddayaddayadda, yep, that'll do.
P: Um...for example...trains of Ireland which I can't remember the link but it's in here somewhere.
P: Ok, so you switched to the Ireland page.
<copy-paste fun>
I: You copied it out of the address bar and pasted it into the text [as a link].
P: ...and which... <I: with a link [?]>
I: And a little summary about the Multiple Units of Ireland, with that.
P: Yeah I was wondering if I ought to do a...[mumbled: you know]...
I: <reading "[[|]]"> A piped link thing...
P: ...yeah, but I can't be bothered, because I don't know enough about these things to write one <I: Yep.> "and for example Multiple Units of Ireland which blah blah blah"
P: Um. "You---you also get them in Russia."
I: Yep. <P: typing> And a link to the Russian [node?] which you copy [or note?], right ok.
P: Yes.
I: If you want to add any little bit of summary of those on this main page...what would you do for that? I mean you're allowed to take the information from the other two pages.
P: Erm, dunno. But that's for...right?
P: Am I putting a summary about---
I: ---well, if you were to fill in the "blah" bits...
P: Anyway.
P: Depends whether I knew something about them or not, though.
I: Ok.
P: 'Cause, I mean, all I can do with this would be to copy-paste and...move some full stops around.
I: Ok. So you'd only do this if you actually knew what you were talking about.
P: But if it was something that I knew about I might just bring it out my head and...
I: Ok, so you---you'd probably create a new piece of text to summarise it because you know what you're talking about.
P: Yeah.
I: Right, ok. So.
I: Yeah, so you wouldn't share the summary text between this page, and the other pages specifically about that particular type?
P: Uh, probably not.
I: Nope. That's fine.
P: Is that what Ted Nelson would do?
I: Probably. It's not what most people would do. Erm.
P: [mumble: Why doing you just have magic things---]
I: What if someone adds another---
P: ---that sort-of just sucking in the text; anyway.
I: Yeah, 3D lines, yeah.
P: [mumbled: curve ?]
I: Erm. What if someone adds another page about multiple units in a different country...to the wiki?
P: Can you leave um...<thinks>...the should do the category thing, as well
I: Nope, no so you'd---<P: which>---you'd make this a category, or something?
P: Yeah, I don't know quite how to do that, but I'd look it up.
I: Right. Ok.
P: Curly brackets, possibly.
I: I think it's square brackets and you put "Category" thing so it looks like a link.
P: I've done it, so I would go and look at somewhere where I have done it and copy that.
I: Ok.
P: For, um, kind of stations in Southampton or something.

[Belgium] <26:20>
I: Can you add its date of EU membership, which is the 25th of March 1957, to the infobox, please? <27:00>
P: I dunno. Mmm.
 - Goes to edit
 - Looks through template args
P: Er, yeah, finding where to put it...but I don't have a clue. Put it in some dates.
I: You've found the established event and established date things.
P: Er, yes, would I copy those?
I: Try it.
 - Tries it, established event 3
P: I was wondering whether I should put it in a...you know, in a link or not.

P: I'll worry about that if this works.
 - Links date same way as others
 - Preview
P: It's sort-of worked. But I missed a space [in the date].
 - Puts space in and saves.
 - Might link 'EU membership' to something.

[Villains] <29:30>
P: What he's in both of them?
I: He's in both films.
P: So can we...take him out, of here?
I: You can, if you want to.
P: And give him a page within...
I: Right.
P: Am I bothered.
 - Hypothetically: click edit, cut text of Jaws section, create new section
P: There's some magic to do "main article" clause, right?
I: Oh, there's a template, isn't there.
P: Yeah. Whatever.
I: Um. I can't remember what it is but---you would use it?
 - Would look that up if real Wikipedia by finding somewhere which did that
 - Creates link to new Jaws article
 - Pastes in text
 - Adds metallic teeth
 - Was going to be minor [metallic], but not because creating as well
 - Put a couple of lines about jaws in Spy Who Loved Me (next to main article link)
 - Go and change Moonraker
 - Replace with link and film-specific lines
 - No refs between films, just implicit via shared Jaws page
 - Would look at other films with shared characters

[Shelf] <33:15>
 - No idea.
 - Presumably, find the specific type of link, and copy that [and paste into place]
 - There's a toolbox thing for finding them
 - Would use that
