Extruded single-mode high-index-core one-dimensional microstructured optical fiber with high index-contrast for highly nonlinear optical devices
We report the first fabrication of a high-index-core one-dimensional microstructured optical fiber with high index-contrast layers. The extrusion technique is utilized to fabricate a microstructured preform with a number of concentric high-index-contrast layers. Single mode guidance and the high effective nonlinearity of 260 + 30 W-1km-1 were observed in the fiber at 1.55µm, indicating its promise in the applications of highly nonlinear optical devices.

Abstract
We report the first fabrication of a high-index-core one-dimensional microstructured optical fiber with high index-contrast layers. The extrusion technique is utilized to fabricate a microstructured preform with a number of concentric high-index-contrast layers. Single mode guidance and the high effective nonlinearity of 260 + 30 W-1km-1 were observed in the fiber at 1.55µm, indicating its promise in the applications of highly nonlinear optical devices.
