The three-volume Proceedings contain the latest information and analyses from scholars active in the field of the archaeology of the ancient Near East, as reported at the 7th International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East (VII ICAANE), held in London in April 2010. The VII ICAANE congress was a huge success, jointly hosted by UCL Institute of Archaeology and the British Museum. A total of 850 participants, from 41 countries, attended the congress, making it one of the largest archaeological congresses ever held in the UK. Multiple parallel sessions included the main themes of the congress (mega-cities and mega-sites; colour and light in architecture, art and material culture; ancient and modern issues in cultural heritage; landscape, transport and communication; the archaeology of consumption and disposal), plus sessions devoted to Islamic archaeology, fieldwork reports and posters.
