Designing a questionnaire: an overview
Designing a questionnaire: an overview
Survey design using questionnaire is a popular methodology employed by occupational therapists in both research and clinical practice. A misconception sometimes encountered is that it is relatively easy to produce a questionnaire and that 'no special preparation or training is perceived as necessary' (Chesson 1993, p711). This paper guides the reader through the process of designing and using a questionnaire and highlights some of the potential pitfalls. It is intended to provide an overview and the reader is directed to other texts which explore some of the issues in more detail.

Abstract
Survey design using questionnaire is a popular methodology employed by occupational therapists in both research and clinical practice. A misconception sometimes encountered is that it is relatively easy to produce a questionnaire and that 'no special preparation or training is perceived as necessary' (Chesson 1993, p711). This paper guides the reader through the process of designing and using a questionnaire and highlights some of the potential pitfalls. It is intended to provide an overview and the reader is directed to other texts which explore some of the issues in more detail.
