Preface
This special issue is a result of a 2-day workshop held in celebration of the career of Professor Paul Alan Tyler, University of Southampton, UK. The workshop, entitled “Deep-Sea Biodiversity and Life-History Processes” held at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton in June 2012 attracted a total of 37 papers, 26 posters and over 100 participants from across the globe who funded themselves to attend this unique meeting—a clear testimony to the popularity of Paul in terms of both his life-long work and of the personal friendships he has made along the way. Paul has always been highly supportive of facilitating communications between researchers across the world at all stages of their careers from undergraduate students to senior scientists in order to stimulate innovative science. Paul's bibliography listed below shows how he has worked creatively with a wide variety of people to generate new knowledge on the life-history characteristics of many different deep-sea taxa.
