University of Southampton: bridging the gap between research and conservation
University of Southampton: bridging the gap between research and conservation
The University of Southampton is home to the Ocean and Earth Science (OES) Research Aquarium, based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS). The aquarium’s main purpose is to provide technical support to the Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystems research group and teaching support to the students within OES. It also offers research space to academics across the University and external researchers. In addition to this, the aquarium is involved with animal welfare research and has a number of on-going collaborations with zoos, aquariums and welfare organisations. Naturally, through our research, we devise improvements in experimental design which often leads to improvements in husbandry methods. The aim of this poster is to demonstrate how the research we conduct can improve husbandry methods and assist with conservation projects. It also aims to demonstrate current collaborations and inspire future research collaborations.
