Transferability and implementation issues of open data for application-based traveller information

Transferability and implementation issues of open data for application-based traveller information
This paper presents findings from the EU funded TIDE project with regards to implementation and transferability issues that Local Authorities encounter when implementing an open access data policy for applications-based traveller information. The project established a list of key success factors (enablers) and barriers with regards to preparation, implementation and operation on the basis of expert interviews, case studies and practical experiences of Reading, Rome and Grand Lyon. Key success factors are the availability of good quality data and a demand for the traveller information apps. Key barriers are the lack of willingness of the various data ‘owners’ to offer their data without charge and low demand for apps – which will not encourage private parties to develop apps. Such barriers could be addressed by active engagement and running competitions or challenge funding
