Abstract
This paper discusses the issue of truth-telling in palliative care, with particular attention to individuals dying from cancer in hospital. Its aim is to examine the complex questions which arise from historical and ethical perspectives, as well as from the practical standpoint. The role of the nurse in terms of disclosure of information remains uncertain. However, it is contended that nurses need to view truth-telling as an essential part of their role in order to improve patient care
