README FILE FOR THE NEW ARCTIC LAKES GEODATABASE (NALGDB) Version 2015 ------How to cite------ Note that the NALGDB dataset itself has a DOI so it may be relevant to cite both the methods/overview journal article as well as the specific version of the dataset used. The journal article describing the dataset is: For further details see: Paltan, H., Dash, J. & Edwards, M., 2015. A refined mapping of Arctic lakes using Landsat imagery. International Journal of Remote Sensing, 36(23), pp.5970–5982 (http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/01431161.2015.1110263) ------Description------ The New Arctic Lakes GeoDatabase (2015) was built by applying a density-slicing technique for the shortwave infrared band over 617 Landsat 5 TM cloud- free images from the summer months of 2006–2011. It covers boreal regions >65N (some areas in Greenland and north Taimyr may be either omitted or underrepresented because of the lack of cloud-free images). The accuracy of the dataset is 80%. The NALGDB maps over 3,500,000 lakes that have a minimum mapping area of 0.0036 km2. ------ Format of Database------ Data Type: File Geodatabase Feature Class Geometric type: Polygon Projected Coordinate System:North_Pole_Lambert_Azimuthal_Equal_Area Projection:Lambert_Azimuthal_Equal_Area ------ Contact ------ For additional information, please send an e-mail to homero.paltanlopez@ouce.ox.ac.uk
