By monitoring the wavelength-shifts, in real-time, of higher-order mode Bragg-resonances in a fibre grating during cladding-etching, we show that it is possible to determine the diameter of the fibre with ~0.5 micron accuracy, for diameters <25 micron.

Abstract

By monitoring the wavelength-shifts, in real-time, of higher-order mode Bragg-resonances in a fibre grating during cladding-etching, we show that it is possible to determine the diameter of the fibre with ~0.5 micron accuracy, for diameters <25 micron.
