Neolithic Seafaring in the Adriatic: La navigazione dell'Adriatico nel Neolitico

Neolithic Seafaring in the Adriatic: La navigazione dell'Adriatico nel Neolitico
Neolithic Seafaring in the Adriatic: La navigazione dell'Adriatico nel Neolitico
Too often when we study the archaeology of a region our studies are bounded by natural geographies or national boundaries. The sea is often viewed as one such boundary, but at the very least, maritime space should be recognised as an area in which activity did occur in the past, and a conduit for communication, trade, and exchange from prehistory onwards.
The Adriatic was certainly no barrier to the people living along its shores in prehistory. As more evidence is revealed through archaeogenetic research about the spread of people across the Adriatic into Sicily and southern Italy a picture of Neolithic communities as seafarers takes shape.

Abstract

Too often when we study the archaeology of a region our studies are bounded by natural geographies or national boundaries. The sea is often viewed as one such boundary, but at the very least, maritime space should be recognised as an area in which activity did occur in the past, and a conduit for communication, trade, and exchange from prehistory onwards.
The Adriatic was certainly no barrier to the people living along its shores in prehistory. As more evidence is revealed through archaeogenetic research about the spread of people across the Adriatic into Sicily and southern Italy a picture of Neolithic communities as seafarers takes shape.
