Dress Rehearsal: Food, Sustainable Emergency and Design
Dress Rehearsal: Food, Sustainable Emergency and Design
Dress Rehearsal took place on Saturday 11 June 2016 in the Elisava Gardens of Barcelona (in front of the Design Hub Barcelona). We put the city to the test from the point of view of food sustainability and appraised its capacities. We staged a major gastronomic event to demonstrate that, in environmental and social terms, we can be more sustainable. And we did it hand in hand with people who have been working for many years on other ways of producing and consuming, with the involvement of the districts that surround Plaça de les Glòries and making use of design’s ability to generate processes, spaces and messages and objects that modify our consumer habits. Through the strategies inherent to ephemeral public intervention on the public space we proposed new ways of investigating a city’s needs. We generated street activities through a festive action that, while championing the extraordinary in the ordinary, would make us rethink it through using it. A design experience where we reused (crockery or a hot-air balloon for casting shade), we experimented (with natural materials for creating shade or new materials) or, in a symbiotic manner, we worked together with different institutions and people for reciprocal benefit.
This project was a great echo in the local media (radio, television and newspapers).
