The rise of stewardship - 'smoke and mirrors' or governance realignment?
This Chapter considers the increasing reliance on Stewardship Codes which are being adopted in many countries to address concerns about disengaged shareholders and ownerless companies. The Chapter considers the value of these Codes in terms of their content and contribution to engagement and asks whether other mechanisms are more important, such as engaged, pro-active directors, and better narrative reporting focusing on risk management.
