The signal haunted Cold War: the persistence of the SIGINT ontology
This chapter focuses on "signal intelligence" as it pertains to the continuity of surveillance from the Cold War to the current NSA-related leaks. With a focus on the Teufelsberg surveillance station in Berlin, the chapter is a media archaeological take on the architectural remnants of signal interception and hence also investigates some media theoretical questions concerning this technological culture of signal-based transmission.
