Using company-level environmental reporting and information to promote effective implementation of environmental legislation

Using company-level environmental reporting and information to promote effective implementation of environmental legislation
Using company-level environmental reporting and information to promote effective implementation of environmental legislation
: A constant challenge for implementing environmental legislation is targeting limited resources to best protect the environment and people. Integrated data and information can provide the evidence to maximise the impact of strategic, policy and legal interventions. The CLEAR Info project is trialling a system for integrating and analysing the data Great Britain’s Environment Agencies collect as environmental regulators. This paper provides an overview of the CLEAR Info project and reports on the outcomes of a cross-sectoral pilot study and trials including waste companies. Four key environmental performance datasets were analysed. These datasets were selected for their relevance to a finance sector audience, and focused on the areas of reputation, management performance and exposure to financial risks / opportunities. The findings from this analysis are reported alongside the five main elements of the project that will add value to the EU. The project will help enable European regulators to share data across regulatory boundaries and build an understanding of corporate performance.
