In view of the accession of ten new Member States to the EU, WIDE has taken several initiatives raising awareness of the impact of the EU accession process on women's livelihoods and gender equality in the accession and candidate countries, and to formulate policy recommendations on forward-looking strategies for gender equality. With the publication of this bulletin, WIDE continues to raise awareness on the contradictory consequences of the EU accession process for gender equality in a number of Central and Eastern European countries.
