Video of nurse staffing simulation

This is a video of the simulation developed for the research project "Identifying nurse-staffing requirements using the Safer Nursing Care Tool. Modelling the costs and consequences of real world application to address variation in patient need on hospital wards".

The model simulates patient acuity/dependency levels, calculates the nursing hours required according to the Safer Nursing Care Tool, simulates redeployment of nursing staff between wards and hiring of external staff, and calculates costs and numbers of understaffed shifts.

The simulation was built using AnyLogic software (https://www.anylogic.com/). The research was funded by the funded by the National Institute for Health Research’s Health Services & Delivery Research programme (grant number 14/194/21). The views expressed are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the NIHR, the Department of Health and Social Care, ‘arms’ length bodies or other government departments.
