Contextual influences on inclusivity: The Singapore experience

Contextual influences on inclusivity: The Singapore experience
Contextual influences on inclusivity: The Singapore experience
This chapter articulates the rationale that for the field of inclusive education to realistically appraise its current efforts and relevance to fulfilling its international agenda in countries around the world, it is important to contextualize its interpretation and implementation within unique and complex sociocultural and historical conditions, legacies and national priorities. This situated understanding of inclusive education within history, culture and context is illustrated in this chapter through the chronological evolution of inclusive education as part of the larger nation-building narrative of Singapore and its alliance with current national efforts to become an inclusive society for all its citizens.
