READ ME File For Dataset in support of the thesis entitled "The Impacts of Invertebrate Activities on Sediment Microbial Community and Functional Ecology". Dataset DOI: 10.5258/SOTON/D0993 ReadMe Author: Harriet Dale, University of Southampton (ORCID ID 0000-0001-9824-9450) This dataset supports the thesis entitled The Impacts of Invertebrate Activities on Sediment Microbial Community and Functional Ecology DATE OF AWARD: 22.05.2019 DESCRIPTION OF THE DATA Dataset represents all data in support of the PhD thesis, excepting large sequencing datasets which are publically availble on the European Nucleotide Archive (PRJEB22034 & PRJEB29031). This dataset includes qPCR measurements of DNA and cDNA abundance of bacterial and archaeal 16S rRNA gene abundance, bacterial and archaeal amoA gene abundance, and bacterial nirS gene abundance. It also includes carbohydrate and nitrogen compound concentrations, oxygen measurements, and metadata for Hediste diversicolor individuals used in dissections. Contents: Chapter 2: Bacterial amoA DNA and cDNA/DNA abundance, and archaeal amoA DNA and cDNA/DNA abundance from qPCR measurements. Treatment represents open and closed burrow systems, and depth around burrow that sample was taken from. Chapter 3: Carbohydrate concentration, bacterial and archaeal 16S rRNA DNA abundance from qPCR measurements, concentrations of nitrogen compounds from autoanalyser measurements, and bacterial amoA, archaeal amoA and bacterial nirS gene abundance from qPCR measurements. Sequence data for this chapter is available at the European Nucleotide Archive (PRJEB22034). Chapter 4 -Microbial Data - Bacterial amoA DNA and cDNA/DNA abundance, archaeal amoA DNA and cDNA/DNA abundance, and bacterial nirS DNA and cDNA/DNA abundance from qPCR measurements Microbial data seperated from nutrient data due to differences in number of replicates Treatment refers to presence of absence of mucus, type of O2 condition, and time point Chapter 4 - Nutrient Data - O2 measurements in sediment and headspace of incubations and concentrations of nitrogen compounds from autoanalyser measurements Treatment refers to presence of absence of mucus, type of O2 condition, and time point Chapter 5 - Metadata - Information related to length of individual Hediste diversicolor and position and weight of foregut and hindgut samples Chapter 5 - Microbial Data - Bacterial and archaeal 16S rRNA DNA abundance, bacterial and archaeal amoA DNA abundance, and bacterial nirS DNA abundance from qPCR measurements. Sequence data for this chapter is available at the European Nucleotide Archive (PRJEB29031). Related Publications: Dale, H., Solan, M., Lam, P., & Cunliffe, M. (2019).
