The use of longitudinal methods in establishment surveys

The use of longitudinal methods in establishment surveys
The use of longitudinal methods in establishment surveys
Business surveys are not generally designed as longitudinal surveys (although there are some examples of longitudinal business surveys), but because of the design features imposed by the structure of business populations and targets for statistical measurement, there are many similarities. In this paper we examine the commonalities between longitudinal approaches commonly employed in social surveys and the methods in use for business surveys. There are opportunities for both sides to learn from these comparisons, but in this paper we consider principally the areas which could be employed more widely in business surveys.

Abstract

Business surveys are not generally designed as longitudinal surveys (although there are some examples of longitudinal business surveys), but because of the design features imposed by the structure of business populations and targets for statistical measurement, there are many similarities. In this paper we examine the commonalities between longitudinal approaches commonly employed in social surveys and the methods in use for business surveys. There are opportunities for both sides to learn from these comparisons, but in this paper we consider principally the areas which could be employed more widely in business surveys.
