READ ME File For 'Experimental data for the PhD Thesis 'Understanding and modelling the formation, growth, and failure of woody debris jams at bridge piers'' Dataset DOI: 10.5258/SOTON/D1144 ReadMe Author: DIEGO PANICI, University of Southampton ORCID ID 0000-0001-7394-7981 This dataset supports the thesis entitled AWARDED BY: University of Southampton DATE OF AWARD: 2019 DESCRIPTION OF THE DATA Experimental data that includes maximum size, flow conditions, drag coefficient from 732 experiments carried out in a hydraulic flume. The data is sub-divided into experimental groups as outlined in the thesis, in which the title of each sheet refers to the corresponding experimental group. For all experimental groups, each row corresponds to a flow condition tested. All variables measured or computed are clearly stated in the headers with correspoinding symbols in the thesis. This dataset contains: -Flow variables (e.g. discharge, velocity, water depth) -Individual debris variables (e.g. length, diameter) -Pier size (i.e. diameter/width) -Debris size variables (i.e. width W, height H, length K) -Coefficient of drag -Computed dimensionless variables (e.g. debris Froude number) Date of data collection: January 2016 - March 2017 Information about geographic location of data collection: Flume experiments carried out in the large internal flume, Chilworth facilities, University of Southampton, Southampton Licence: CC BY Related projects/Funders: EPSRC through CDT in Sustainable Infrastructure Systems grant ref.
