READ ME File For 'MATLAB scripts for CT data assessment' Dataset DOI: 10.5258/SOTON/D1101 ReadMe Author: Sebastian Rosini, University of Southampton, https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7682-5816 This dataset supports the thesis entitled 'Understanding the damage accumulation and tensile strength in carbon fibre reinforced polymers using high resolution in situ computed tomography' AWARDED BY: University of Southampton DATE OF AWARD: 2020 DESCRIPTION OF THE DATA The data is made of two MATLAB scripts used to process the Computed Tomography (CT) scan volumes collected for the PhD project. 1. 'clusters_v05_PRINT.m' for Chapter 4: reads the fibre breaks coordinates and catalogues all the break clusters (planar and diffuse). As output, it provides an Excel file with all the fibre clusters; 2. 'fibre_misalignment_v03_PRINT.m' for Chapter 6: reads the subvolume locations and extracts one by one all the fibre centroids. After this, all the fibres trajectories are obtained and angles analysed using statistical tools and distributions of fibre misalignment are plotted and obtained as output. This dataset contains: Scripts to be used in MATLAB to process CT data on any unidirectional composite material scanned at high resolution (at least 6-7 voxels should cover the diameter of a single fibre). Using these scripts, groups of fibre breaks and information such as (number of fibres involved, location, etc.) is obtained, as well as the shape of the fibres can be extracted on short lengths (about 12 times the fibre diameter). Scripts can be easily adapted to different datasets.
