Additional Information: Microlight technical paper receives "Fish" award Dr Simon Newman, from the School of Engineering Sciences, has been awarded the Herman R. "Fish" Salmon Technical Publications award from the Society of Experimental Test Pilots. Dr Newman's paper, co-written with Dr Guy Gratton based at Brunel University, was titled: Towards the Tumble Resistant Microlight, and was selected as the winner of the award for the best article published in Cockpit magazine during the past year. A surprised Dr Newman said: 'It was with great pleasure that Guy Gratton and I heard of this award. The technical paper is concerned with a flight phenomenon of microlight aircraft which has caused fatal accidents. The award is in honour of a well known test pilot who worked for Lockheed aircraft. To be added to a list of recipients including John Farley and Bill Bedford is very special.'
