(2020) Spectroscopy of thulium-doped tantalum pentoxide waveguides on silicon Optical Materials Express Description: The excel file contains all experimental data used for generating Fig.4, Fig.5, Fig.6 and Fig.8. Also contained in the Excel file are the plots from Fig.2 without annotation and in high resolution. These plots were produced directly from the modelling software: COMSOL Multiphysics, for monomode operation at a wavelength of 1.85 µm. The figures are as follows: Fig. 2 3-μm rib waveguide laser simulated mode intensity profile in TE polarization at b) 795 nm and c) 1866 nm Fig. 4 a) Fluorescence decay for the sample annealed at 650°C for 12 hrs, b) collected fluorescence vs. annealing temperature and time and c) ³F₄ excited-state lifetime vs. annealing temperature and time. All measurements used 2-μm-thick Tm:Ta₂O₅ slab waveguides. Fig. 5 Absorption cross-section spectra of Tm³⁺:Ta₂O₅ for a) short wavelength and b) long wavelength regions Fig. 6 Emission spectra a) fluorescence with increasing pump power, b) emission cross-section for Tm³⁺:Ta₂O₅ between for the ³F₄ →³H₆ transition with a quantum efficiency of 0.2 Fig. 8 Laser output spectrum with an incident pump power of 170 mW a) showing lasing at 1238 nm and 1858 nm, and b) expanded to show detail, on a linear scale, near 1858 nm Geographic location of data collection: University of Southampton, U.K. Date of data collection 2016-01-01 to 2019-12-30 Funding and related projects: This work was supported by the UK EPSRC Programme Grant, Silicon Photonics for Future Systems EP/L00044X/1, by Amy Tong’s EPSRC studentship 1513767, and for J.
